Background & Statement of the problem: Bipolar affective disorder (BAD) manifests in unconventional behaviors that deviate from cultural norms. Individuals with BAD require consideration due to signs affecting decision-making and impulse control, resulting in effects on their mood and thoughts, leading to suicidal ideation. Working in a psychiatric clinic, the author observed fluctuations in achievement levels among individuals with bipolar disorder. Those afflicted with bipolar disorder contemplate suicide due to the psychological distress they endure. This research emerged as a response to existing psychological literature addressing the challenges faced by patients, aiming to unveil the intricate relationship between achievement motivation and suicidal tendencies within this group of individuals.
Objectives: Objective of this study is to assess levels of achievement motivation about suicidal tendencies within a sample of bipolar patients. The research explored correlation between these two variables, highlighting potential connections into the psychological dynamics of individuals with bipolar disorder.
Methods: The study adopted correlative descriptive approach.
Results: Findings revealed elevated average scores for achievement motivation and moderate mean scores for suicidal tendencies within the studied sample. It demonstrated significant negative correlation between achievement motivation and suicidal tendencies. This suggests that as achievement motivation increases, there is a decrease in suicidal tendencies among individuals with bipolar disorder in examined population.
Conclusions (Recommendations and contributions): Study suggests the imperative to enhance Arab-focused research concerning individuals with bipolar disorder and extend investigations to additional variables. This underscores importance of expanding knowledge base and understanding of bipolar patients within the Arab context, encouraging comprehensive understanding of the disorder.
